The Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K will celebrate its 8th anniversary on Sunday, 13 July 2025. Entries open on Wednesday, 02 April – runners (and walkers) are encouraged to register early to secure their spot!
The Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K is the third event in a prestigious series of five premium mass participation 10km road races. Celebrating the vibrant spirit of Durban, this event brings together runners of all levels to enjoy a fast-paced and scenic course, alongside elite athletes vying for top honors. Known for its festive atmosphere, the race features live entertainment, energetic local cheer zones, and a strong emphasis on community engagement. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a beginner, the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K promises to be an unforgettable experience.
“We’re excited to open entries for the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K in 2025,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Series Founder. “With its fast and flat course, this event lends itself to world-class performances. The 2024 race saw over 10,000 participants, making it the largest field since the Durban leg began in 2017. It was a historic event, with Glenrose Xaba setting a new South African Women’s 10km record, becoming the first South African to break Elana Meyer’s 2001 record. The men’s race was equally impressive, with the top five finishing in under 28 minutes, and for the first time in history, four South Africans ran under 28 minutes in the same race.
While the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K certainly attracts world-class elites, it’s not just about the fast runners – we ensure that social runners (and walkers) also have an unforgettable experience. The route offers breathtaking Durban views, and participants are treated to vibrant on-route entertainment, making it a celebration for everyone. Whether you’re racing for a personal best or simply enjoying the day, the event is designed to bring excitement and a sense of community to all who take part.”
Jabulile Nsibanyoni, Head of Sponsorships, Brand, and Marketing at Absa says, “We are thrilled to announce our return to Durban for the Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting out, this race is for everyone. You can run, walk, or jog your way through, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and contributing to charity along the way. We invite the community of Durban to join us and share their unique stories as we lace up our shoes and hit the streets together.”
Councillor Cyril Xaba shared the following remarks: “The Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K has truly become one of Durban’s most cherished events, showcasing the city’s vibrant spirit and love for sport. Each year, we see thousands of runners take to the streets, and it’s a highlight for both participants and spectators alike. The city is proud to host such a prestigious event and we look forward to welcoming even more runners to our beautiful City this July.”

It Started with Cave Art: PR goes back to the earliest days of civilization. From communicating through cave drawings to Egyptian pharaohs’ “sacred carvings” and Greek noblemen learning rhetoric from sophists, communications management is an age-old practice. (Source: The Museum of Public Relations)
