Rapid response and cooperation between Brakpan residents, the Community Policing Forum (CPF), private security companies and the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) led to the arrest of a suspected cable thief in Prince George Avenue, Brakpan.
Two Freedom Front Plus councillors responded to a tip-off from the public and confronted the suspect while he was removing power cables from a damaged streetlight.
He fled the scene, but was apprehended with the help of community members, a CPF member and Secure Tech response officers, and handed over to the Ekurhuleni Metro Police. A criminal case has been lodged.
The Freedom Front Plus will follow up on the matter to ensure it receives the necessary attention.
Cable theft and vandalism not only cost the Ekurhuleni Metro and taxpayers money, but also damage essential infrastructure and contribute directly to poor service delivery.
This incident is another example of what can be achieved when residents, community organisations, security companies, law enforcement and public representatives work together.
Residents should vote for the Freedom Front Plus on 4 November 2026 to ensure continued cooperation to combat crime in communities.
Freedom Front Plus Land Reform: The FF Plus opposes land expropriation without compensation.

Fun South African Fact: Three different destinations make up South Africa’s capital cities. This is to represent the South African government being divided into three sections. Cape Town is the legislative capital, Pretoria is the administrative capital and Bloemfontein is the judicial capital. Interestingly, Parliament meetings take place for six months in Cape Town and six months in Pretoria.
