The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) strongly condemns the violent protest action that led to a fire at the Department of Home Affairs offices in Germiston this morning.

The second floor of the building has been completely destroyed.

It is suspected that the residents of the Pharoe Park apartment complex, owned by the Ekurhuleni Metro’s housing company, are responsible for the protest action and the subsequent fire.

This apartment complex is located near the Home Affairs offices, situated at the corner of FH Odendaal and President Streets.

On 26 June, the Metro’s housing company obtained an eviction order applicable to residents of the Pharoe Park apartment complex. This order was executed this morning.

These residents owe the Municipality more than R200 million in outstanding lease fees accumulated over the past 20 years. More than 400 families currently reside in the complex.

The Freedom Front Plus is fully aware of and recognises the severe impact this has on the families forced to vacate their homes. Nevertheless, lawlessness cannot be tolerated.

The party strongly condemns violent protest actions, which are nothing short of criminal, vandalistic and unacceptable.

The VF Plus will never condone the destruction of infrastructure, violations of the law and incitement to violence.

Freedom Front Plus Future Vision: The FF Plus envisions a South Africa where all communities can thrive and coexist peacefully.
