The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) today lodged a formal complaint with the Gauteng MEC for Environmental Affairs, Evan Botha, and is demanding an immediate investigation into frequent fires at a compost manufacturing site in Station Street, Lewisham, Mogale City.

The suffocating smoke and unbearable stench emanating from the premises are causing severe discomfort for many Krugersdorp residents. No community should be exposed to such health and environmental risks.

A delegation led by Jaco Mulder, together with Freedom Front Plus councillors, visited the area and found that several activities in the vicinity warrant urgent investigation.

These include:

  • the compost plant on a municipal site directly beneath electrical power lines;
  • the situation at the Luipaardsvlei waste processing site; and;
  • alleged illegal mining activities by Zama Zamas in the area.

The Freedom Front Plus demands that all activities that do not comply with the relevant legislation be halted at once.

The party will keep pressuring the relevant authorities to enforce legal compliance, ensure accountability and investigate any possible connections between these activities.

The Freedom Front Plus does not merely shine the spotlight on problems – we insist on practical and decisive solutions that protect residents’ health and ensure sustainable environmental management.
