The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) in the Garden Route welcomes police confirmation that the Bitou Deputy Mayor, Nokuzola Kolwapi, must appear in court on 23 June 2026 on a charge in terms of the Environmental Conservation Act (Act 73 of 1989).

The charge relates to an alleged incident at the end of 2025 in which a firearm was discharged in a public area. The matter has attracted significant public interest and concern.

As an elected public representative, Kolwapi holds a position of high public confidence. It is, therefore, important that any allegations of misconduct are thoroughly and transparently investigated and that the law is allowed to run its course.

The party will not pre-empt the court process, but wishes to emphasise that matters of public interest should be treated with the necessary seriousness and transparency.

As with all criminal cases, the principle applies that an accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The VF Plus will follow the court proceedings intently.
