Good news for people who could not get a smart ID in South Africa | SA News


Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber has announced the launch of the second and final phase of his department’s Citizenship Reinstatement Portal, which will enable more citizens to apply for a smart ID.

Once the portal confirms a citizen’s status, their record is automatically updated on the National Population Register.

“Their profile is changed to ‘citizen’ status. They receive a real-time notification that they can proceed to apply for a South African passport or smart ID without further waiting periods,” Home…
