Good news for South Africans with expired driving licences | SA News


The Department of Transport has reduced the driving licence production backlog to approximately 120,000 cards after South Africa’s only printer for licence cards broke down earlier in the year.

The backlog peaked at over 730,000 cards after the driving licence card printer broke down and was non-operational from February to May 2025.

Spokesperson Collen Msibi recently revealed the department’s progress in clearing the production backlog.
