GOOD Speech by Roscoe Palm, GOOD City of Cape Town Councillor during the Cape Town Council Meeting:
Speaker,
By rights, a City of Cape Town councillor should be appointed to this position on the Castle Control Board.
The appointment of Mr James-Brent Styan is confounding. He has written books exposing the corrupt Steinhoff, a former DA funder. He has written about the transfer of wealth upwards, which is exactly what the DA does with its rates and taxes to screw the poor, working and middle class. He has exposed corrupt financial practices, which is exactly what the City’s MPAC covers up.
But when viewed through the lens of cadre deployment, it all begins to make sense. Just as the Mayor deployed his loyal cadre Gareth van Onselen as Council’s representative to UCT in 2021, here we see another insider appointment. Here we see the deployment of someone who loyally worked for MEC Bredell, and now the Mayor.
Just like the mayor gives municipal money to his former school, and the deputy mayor gives taxpayers money to his church, so the mayor gives appointments to his loyal circle of trust.
It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
Speaker, the GOOD party does not support cadre deployment, so we do not support this item.
