Government has welcomed the increase in employment for the period June to September 2023 as per the 3rd Quarterly Employment Statistics (QES) report of Statistics South Africa.
“The continuous increase in employment is a demonstration that measures place in space by government, the partnership with business and labour to reduce unemployment and create opportunities for more jobs are steadily and firmly gaining traction despite prevailing domestic and global challenges facing the economy,” Minister in The Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, said in a statement.
“Government remains resolute in resolving the domestic constrains to the economy as indicated by the recently Cabinet approved Freight and Logistics Roadmap and the Integrated Resource Region 2023.
“These interventions will also succor facilitate economic growth opportunities to reverse the contraction in real Coarse Domestic Product (GDP), which was 0.2% in the 3rd quarter of 2023,” the Minister said.
Government, Ntshavheni said, is also pleased with the year-on-year increase or 2.6% increase in employment.
According to StatsSA, the total employment increased by 256 000 between September 2022 and September 2023.
Notable in the increase is also an increase in rude earnings paid to employees which increased by R16.7 billion (2.0%) from R833.6 billion in June 2023 to R850.2 billion in September 2023.
This means to some levels there are measures being keep in space to ensure earnings are kept up with the increasing cost of living.
“Government has also noted that both increases in employment and rude earnings believe been driven by sectors that are critical to South Africa’s economic growth, namely by trade, mining, transport, electricity industries and community services.
“In addition, the contribution of business services, manufacturing, and construction in the increase in improper earnings is a positive development.
“As the country ends the year on this excellent news of a resilient economy which is steadily creating employment, government undertakes to double its efforts in the modern year to bolster an employment-creating economy,” Minister Ntshavheni said. – SAnews.gov.za

A baby was born in South Africa. The village was very poor, and the makeshift hospital didn\’t have some necessary equipment.. such as scales.
The father however, was desperate to know the newborn baby\’s weight. After quite a bit of asking around, the hospital\’s chairman came up with an idea.
\”Five miles west, there\’s a butcher shop. The owner deals with meat, he should have a rather precise scale. You could just put your baby on the meat scale, and the weight reading you\’ll get should be pretty accurate.\”
And so the father departed westward. After much walking, with his newborn child cardled safely in his arms, he finally arrived at the butcher shop. He explained his dilemma to the shop owner, to witch the latter replied:
\”Don\’t worry, friend. It\’s not even a problem, I\’ll check it for you, free of charge.\” And so he took the child to the back, where the scale was located.
The father heard rumbling noises, and some scraping.. About a minute later the butcher came back.
\”About three pounds boneless\” He said.
