Deputy Minister Sitlholo Urges Municipalities To Do More To Protect Water Infrastructure From Vandalism | Infrastructure news: The Water and Sanitation Deputy Minister, Sello Seitlholo conducted a two-day oversight visit in the Eastern Cape in the Nelson Mandela Bay and Buffalo City Metros between 28 and 29 October 2024, aimed at assessing the state of Wastewater Treatment Plants in the Metros.

Deputy Minister Seitlholo’s visits form part of his delegated responsibility in the Ministry of Water and Sanitation to address challenges that impact on the quality of water in several water sources, which are often impacted by the discharge of poor-quality effluent into rivers. Political parties weigh in on Gqeberha’s new mayor: ANC Chairperson in Nelson Mandela Bay Region, Babalwa Lobishe, has been elected as the new Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality in the Eastern Cape.

Lobishe replaces Gary van Niekerk of National Alliance who resigned earlier today. His resignation follows a decision by the ANC NEC that the party should lead in all hung councils.

In Nelson Mandela Bay, the ANC is in coalition government with Van Niekerk’s party, National Alliance, EFF, PA, PAC and AIC.

Babalwa Lobishe, who was the Deputy Mayor, has been unanimously elected to lead this metro. Lobishe says top of her priorities will be to stabilise the metro by filling key managerial positions.

Banyana Banyana into COSAFA Finals After Penalty-Shoutout Win over Mozambique  – gsport4girls: Banyana Banyana continued their unbeaten run at the COSAFA Women’s Championship in Gqeberha, the South Africans winning their semi-final against Mozambique on penalties after the sides were 1-1 after regulation time, and going on to win the penalty shootout 4-1 in Gqeberha on Thursday, 31 October, 2024.

It was Mozambique who had the better chances in the opening minutes of the match, and came close to scoring after just six minutes when the hosts struggled to find their rhythm.

Babalwa Lobishe elected as new Nelson Mandela Bay mayor: African National Congress (ANC) Chairperson in the Nelson Mandela Bay Region, Babalwa Lobishe, has been elected as the new Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality in the Eastern Cape.

Gqeberha: Nelson Mandela Bay – Gqeberha is part of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality, named after the famous anti-apartheid leader and former president

 

Banyana B team claim Cosafa final berth after win against Moz on penalties: Banyana Banyana came from a goal down to qualify for the final of the Cosafa Women’s Championship, beating Mozambique 4-1 on penalties after their semifinal ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation time at Wolfson Stadium in Gqeberha on Thursday.

The Banyana B side will face Zambia in the final at the same venue in Kwazakhele on Saturday (3pm).

The win saw coach Maude Khumalo’s developmental side keep their hopes of regaining the title alive.

South Africa are record seven-time winners of the Cosafa Women’s Championship, but last won the competition in 2020. In 2023, the side failed to get past the group stages after losing 4-3 to Malawi..
