No reinstatement for axed teacher who ‘dragged mentally challenged pupil’, but he gets two months’ salary: The council heard it was common cause the teacher dragged the learner from one corridor to another by her arm, but said he had “done this to protect the learner and had her best interests at heart as she was on her way to a scheduled fight”. He said that as he was leading her to class she “started jumping” and “was out of control”, so he dragged her.
The education department argued, however, that he did not provide any evidence of the alleged fight to support his statement.

The recent surge in abductions in the Eastern Cape, along with crime and vandalism at the Gqeberha beachfront, has negatively impacted tourism and the province’s economy.

Young karateka a role model for the children back home: Gqeberha karateka Luchay Weideman was named Sportswoman of the Year at the recent Madibaz Sport Awards.
The 22-year-old national representative earned a string of gold medals in various competitions but said there was more to her life than just collecting silverware.
After being named Sportswoman of the Year at the recent Madibaz Sport Awards, she felt that she was beautifully placed to inspire others.

Ford seeing progress in southern corridor development, albeit slow : The automotive industry is “definitely seeing progress” in its discussions with Transnet on developing the southern rail corridor between Gauteng and Gqeberha and Coega, in the Eastern Cape, says Ford Motor Company Africa president Neale Hill.
Discussions on this project started in 2019 already.
Vehicle manufacturers in Gauteng – BMW, Ford and Nissan – currently move their vehicle exports mainly through Durban.
These manufacturers also have to transport imported components to their plants via Durban, as well as bring in imported vehicles for the local market.
Ford’s logistics via the Durban port are currently divided between rail and road.

Van der Merwe is approached by SANRAL one day who want to build a new highway through his donkey farm. Van is really concerned with how his donkeys can get from one side of the farm to the other without having to cross the highway and risk being injured or killed. He is promised that they will build bridges the highway so that his donkeys can cross under the highway. Van agrees and gives them the go-ahead.
The highway is built and a year later the same rep goes to the farm to go see how Van and his donkeys are. He eventually finds Van under one of these bridges chipping away at the roof of the tunnel with a hammer and chisel.
