Arthur Crewe, NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam station commander, said: NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam are assisting Police divers in an ongoing search for a local man, age 40, who went missing on Saturday day afternoon after reportedly falling out of a boat, close to Caribbean Estate (near to Randburg Bridge), and disappearing under water.
A group of friends were on the boat when it appears that the man and 2 friends, females, went overboard in undetermined circumstances. The boat is believed to have not been underway at the time.
The 2 ladies were recovered and were not injured.
Private boaters, who were in the area at the time, are commended for commencing a search while raising the alarm.
NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam duty crew were activated at 14h28, Saturday, 9 March.
The NSRI rescue craft Sea Legs and Rotary Endeavour were launched while the SA Police Services and SRU (Strategic Rescue Unit) were alerted.
On arrival on the scene following an extensive search, which included NSRI rescue swimmers conducting free dive search efforts, there remains no signs of the missing man.
Family of the missing man attended at the scene and are being supported by counsellors.
Police divers, assisted by NSRI and SRU, are continuing in an ongoing search operation.
