Hartbeespoort: Search for Man Continues

The SA Police Services (SAPS) Water Policing and Diving Services, assisted by NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam, SRU (Strategic Rescue Unit) and Hartbeespoort Marine Law Enforcement, are continuing in an ongoing search for a man missing after being witnessed falling out of a boat that ran ashore.

Arthur Crewe, NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam station commander, said:

At approximately 17h30, Sunday, 9 February, NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam duty crew were activated following a report from children who raised the alarm after they had witnessed a man falling out of his boat, near to Eagles Landing, Pecanwood Estate.

The casualty boat was reported to still be underway without the single occupant onboard.

The NSRI rescue craft SeaLegs was launched and in under 2 minutes NSRI arrived on the scene and while approaching at the boat witnessed the boat running aground.

The SA Police Services, Hartbeespoort Marine Law Enforcement and SRU attended at the scene with NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam. A search commenced for the local adult man who was missing.

It appears that the boat kill switch may not have deployed and may not have been attached when it was witnessed the man falling overboard.

Witnesses described seeing the boat turning in circles and may have run over the man before the boat ran aground, as the NSRI rescue craft was approaching.

Eagle Waters Resort, where the boat reportedly launched from earlier, are assisting.

SAPS Water Policing and Diving Services are continuing in an ongoing search assisted by NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam, SRU (Strategic Rescue Unit) and Hartbeespoort Marine Law Enforcement.

Thoughts, care and compassion are with the family of the missing man in this difficult time.
