On Monday, 16 December, head to Crocworld Conservation Centre in Scottburgh for a party like no other! The centre’s most famous resident crocodile, Henry, is turning 124 years old – and everyone is invited to join in the celebrations. Believed to be the oldest known Nile crocodile in captivity, Henry has been a resident at the centre since 1985, and to mark this historic moment, Crocworld will hand out free cupcakes (first come, first served) to visitors. This is also a chance to meet one of Henry’s oldest friends, Colgate. Clocking in at some 90-odd years, Colgate also happens to be the second-biggest croc at the centre, and quite the celebrity himself! Crocworld is also running a December raffle in celebration of Henry. Buy a R10 raffle ticket from Crocworld Curio Shop and stand a chance to win a wonderful kids’ activity hamper of assorted goodies – including toys, an activity book, and tasty treats – valued at R1 000. The raffle draw will take place on 3 January 2025. While there, check out the WildED Crocworld Activity Book being sold designed by South African children’s conservation book author, Kayleigh Huysamen from Wild Kids Books SA. There are also great meals and drinks to be enjoyed while taking in the sea view from Fish Eagle Café based at Crocworld, as well as a holiday programme involving daily demonstrations, feeds, and more. Visitors can also enjoy aerial zipline experiences at Jikaleza Outdoor Adventures. For more information about Crocworld Conservation Centre, call 039 976 1103, visit www.crocworld.co.za or ‘Crocworld Conservation Centre’ on Facebook and Instagram.

Self-respect cannot be hunted. It cannot be purchased. It is never for sale. It cannot be fabricated out of Public Relations. It comes to us when we are alone, in quiet moments, in quiet places, when we suddenly realize that, knowing the good, we have done it; knowing the beautiful, we have served it; knowing the truth we have spoken it. And certainly when I reached La Chorerra in 1971 I had a price on my head by the FBI, I was running out of money, I was at the end of my rope. And then “THEY” recruited me and said, “you know, with a mouth like yours there\’s a place for you in our organization“. And I\’ve worked in deep background positions about which the less said the better. And then about 15 years ago they shifted me into Public Relations and I\’ve been there to the present. – Terence McKenna
