JOHANNESBURG: The Board of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC) formally announces the appointment of Qondisa Ngwenya as Chief Executive Officer and Edward Khoza as Chief Operating Officer.

These appointments follow a rigorous recruitment and selection process, with the Board unanimously endorsing both candidates, who demonstrated strong capabilities to lead the planning and operational delivery of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.

Ngwenya and Khoza bring extensive experience in the management of major events, underpinned by a consistent record of excellence, strategic acumen, and the ability to cultivate trust across a broad spectrum of stakeholders.

Chairperson of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 LOC Board, Trevor Manuel, said:

“The LOC Board is delighted to welcome Qondisa and Edward. We look forward to their expertise in delivering a demanding mega sporting event of this magnitude.

“They have proved to be more than capable of delivering the Board’s vision to unite the global community through the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, inspire the next generation, and leave a lasting legacy of sport, sustainability, and social cohesion.

“We equally extend our appreciation to Cricket South Africa for supporting the process, and the International Cricket Council for endorsing the appointments.”

The cricket pitch is 20.12 meters (22 yards) in length and 3.05 meters (3.33 yards) in width. The length of 22 yards is considered a chain, which was used as a standard of measurement for land during the 18th century. The chain is 1/10th of a unit of measurement called furlong, which is the average length of land that a team of workers could plough in one day.
