The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the successful execution of the High Court’s order on 20 August 2025 to stop the illegal occupation of the former Lyttelton Town Hall, located on the corner of Napier Road and Fountain Lane in Centurion.

This Hall has been illegally occupied since 2019 and used as a shelter for approximately 30 homeless individuals, without any formal lease agreement with the Tshwane Metro.

It is alleged that a non-governmental organisation (NGO) occupied the premises and collected rent from vulnerable residents.

The Tshwane Metro’s Health Department declared the facility uninhabitable due to severe sewage problems, uncontrolled waste accumulation, and conditions that promote disease, crime and drug abuse.

Further investigations confirmed the presence of undocumented foreigners, exacerbating the security risks.

On 8 July 2025, the court issued an order instructing all illegal occupants to vacate the premises within 30 days, by 7 August 2025. Following their refusal to comply, the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) intervened on 20 August 2025 to enforce the order.

The occupants have been relocated to the Youth for Survival shelter, where they will have access to the necessary support and rehabilitation.

The Lyttelton Town Hall, currently in a dilapidated state, requires urgent repairs and significant investment to restore it to a functional community facility.

The Freedom Front Plus remains committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting public assets, and ensuring that the Tshwane Metro is governed accountably and transparently for residents’ benefit.

Freedom Front Plus Manifesto: The FF Plus advocates for a federal system of government in South Africa.

Fun South African Fact: Despite the country’s status as a democratic republic, the Province of KwaZulu-Natal has a monarchy, specially provided for by the Constitution. Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu is the King of the Zulu Nation, has 27 kids and 6 wives and lives, literally, like a King!
