Is the USA’s Democratic Party Trying to Bankrupt You and I?

14 October 2024 by Alan

The sheer volume of ‘spam’ emails from the Democratic Party that have ‘mysteriously’ made their way into my Gmail inbox refers.

Even if I wanted to I do not qualify to vote in the upcoming US elections and, if the Democratic Party cleans up their email list they will save a lot of money (some estimates are that they will save between $100 and $800 per 1000 emails removed from their mega list.

I tried to gauge just how many e-mails are being sent by the Democratic Party and my assumptions are based on the figures quoted below:

As of 2024, there are more than 1.8 billion active Gmail users worldwide. This impressive figure means that approximately 22.22% of the global population uses Gmail as their email service. This figure is important to take note of as most people complaining of being spammed say that it is the Gmail box being targeted. It would be stretch to say that Gmail is favouring the Democratic Party by not sending these e-mails, which I never (ok – hardly ever!) open to my spam box OR to even surmise that somehow the Democratic Party got hold of millions of Gmail addresses.

DataZapp says the Democratic Party Mailing list that they are peddling consists of 60 Million email addresses. https://www.datazapp.com/democrats-political-marketing

Exact Data says that their Democratic Party Email list consists of 4.7 Million email addresses: https://www.exactdata.com/mailing-lists/democratic-party-supporters-mailing-list.html

Adam Bowie says that he receives an average of 4.7 e-mails per day from the Democratic Party – https://www.adambowie.com/blog/2024/08/an-abundance-of-emails-biden-harris/

I, like Adam says in his post, did NOT sign up to the Democratic Party List and am also being spammed via my Gmail Address.

A quick count in my Gmail box is that I appear to be receiving double the amount of emails than what Adam is.

What does this massive campaign cost the Democratic Party?

Here we enter the realm of DEEP assumption:

If the mailing team is using a 3rd party email list provider (like MailChimp) then the estimate is in the millions per day – $100 to $800 per one thousand emails sent.

Add the cost of admin staff and content writers and the costs soar.

What does this massive campaign cost you the recipient?

WindyR quotes sources that say that each 500 kb e-mail sent and received uses up to 3.7 microwatts of electricity whilst an email sent with an attachment has been estimated to use the equivalent of 50g of carbon dioxide. https://wndyr.com/blog/popular/if-the-world-stopped-using-email-how-much-electricity-would-we-save

Let’s assume that the Democratic Party sends an average of 300 Million e-mails every day.

That would equate to 1 110 000 000 microwats or 1 100 Watts or 1.1 kilowatts of electricity per day.

For the people like me being spammed factor in the bandwidth and time costs of receiving these e-mails and the numbers attributable to wasteful and reckless expenditure mount up.

As it is the hour that it took to research and write this article is not one that can be claimed from a client or sponsor.

So, is the USA trying to bankrupt me?

Boerewors — spicy South African sausage [boor-uh-vors] Meaning ‘farmer’s sausage’, this term describes a savory sausage that was developed by the Afrikaners approximately 200 years ago. Boerewors is usually ‘braaied’ and eaten on a hot dog roll with tomato sauce and mustard. Make sure you roll the ‘r’ when pronouncing this word.
