Lessons for Elon Musk

9 June 2025 by Alan

Elon Musk’s very public cosying up to Donald Trump and his millions of dollars spent in support of Trump’s quest to be the President of the United States offers up a salient lesson:

Hooking your star to one man shooting for the Presidency is fraught with potholes along the way.

Three of them:

  1. The average term served by Presidents tends to be around 6-7 years.
  2. The average lifespan of a company on the S&P 500 Index is just over 21 years.
  3. Approximately 30% of small businesses survive beyond 10 years.

The average listed and privately owned business lifespan is longer than the average term served by a President.

So, only a businessman anticipating a huge lifetime payday would be crazy enough to ‘buy a President’.

So Elon – are you crazy or does Nostradamus defer to you?
