Major international company shuts down operations in South Africa | SA News

Goodyear has confirmed it is closing its manufacturing operations in Nelson Mandela Bay in what worker union NUMSA has called a major blow to employment in the Eastern Cape. 

The plant, which has been operational since 1947, currently employs around 900 people directly and supports more jobs through its broader value chain, including catering, security, logistics, and maintenance services.

  1. Fun South African Fact: Water is not all there is to drink in this thirsty country! South Africa’s Cape Winelands have around 560 wineries and 4 400 primary producers. Included in the Cape Winelands region is Route 62, considered the longest wine route in the world. That alone is good reason to visit South Africa if you haven’t yet been!
