Metro Police Officers See Green

11 August 2025 by Guest

The weekend ended on a high when Metro Police officers seized more than four kilograms of dagga in Fisantekraal on Saturday, 9 August.

The City’s enforcement services arrested 241 suspects in the past week, and issued 62 706 fines for traffic and by-law transgressions.

Metro Police officers made 42 arrests and issued 2 129 fines – one of those arrested was in connection with a four kilogram dagga haul.

On Saturday, 9 August, officers received information of drugs being kept at a house in Fisantekraal.
The owner granted permission for a search of the premises and officers confiscated a black bag filled with dagga weighing 3,39 kilograms, a 221 gram parcel of dagga, 92 bankies and 93 dagga cigarettes, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash.

The home owner was arrested for dealing in dagga.

‘The devastating impact of drugs on our communities continues long after we’ve taken the dealers off the streets. Not only are families destroyed, but drugs fuel many other crimes and illicit dealings. Despite arrests, the suspects are often back on the street a few days later, to continue their criminal dealings.

‘The City’s hands are tied beyond the initial arrest. We can make an even bigger difference with increased powers to investigate these cases. We have made a significant impact in reducing crime and taking drugs off the streets, in spite of our limited resources and powers. We have proven that we are ready to do more, ‘ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

Law Enforcement officers made 166 arrests in the past week and issued 5 870 notices for various transgressions.

Traffic Services recorded 54 707 offences and made 34 arrests – 24 for drunk driving, four for reckless and negligent driving and six for other offences. They executed 883 warrants of arrest and impounded 255 public transport vehicles.

The Public Emergency Communication Centre (PECC) recorded 60 motor and pedestrian vehicle accidents. They also dispatched assistance for 78 assault cases and 44 domestic violence incidents.

Residents can report any emergency by phoning the PECC on 021 480 7700 from a cellphone or dial 107 from a landline.
