Moody’s Upgrades Cape Town

4 May 2025 by Guest

Dear Editor

The Democratic Alliance (DA) congratulates the DA-led City of Cape Town on its credit rating upgrade from Moody’s. It is an endorsement of the City’s sound financial management and commitment to real, impactful service delivery.

Moody’s praised the City’s good governance and its ambitious infrastructure plans, including record investment in water, electricity, transport, and roads. Importantly, 75% of this spend will benefit lower-income households, with 130 000 jobs expected over the next three years.

This matters for residents: a better credit rating means the City can borrow money more cheaply, stretching every rand further. That means more services, delivered faster, and at a lower cost to ratepayers.

While many municipalities face financial collapse, Cape Town shows what is possible when a city is well-run and future-focused. This upgrade confirms that Cape Town is a standout for investors and a national leader in delivering for its people.

We commend Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and his team. Cape Town’s success is a clear sign: where the DA governs, we get things done.

Regards

Willie Aucamp MP
DA National Spokesperson
