This follows the lodging of a criminal complaint with the police for an alleged irregular SALGA travel and/or accommodation claim.
According to the motion, the matter relates to a trip to Caledon on or around 10 and 11 May 2026. It is alleged that Tyatya used an official municipal vehicle for this purpose, while documentation indicates that a SALGA claim was submitted and paid out at the same time.
This raises serious questions about possible double compensation, misrepresentation, unlawful personal benefit and/or the misuse of municipal resources.
The Speaker has confirmed receipt of the motion and it will be placed on the agenda for the next council meeting.
The Freedom Front Plus wishes to emphasise that the motion is not a criminal conviction. The police, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the courts remain responsible for conducting an official investigation and any possible prosecution.
The Freedom Front Plus remains committed to the principles of public trust, accountability and safeguarding taxpayers’ money. The party believes that the Council has the right and duty to determine whether the Executive Mayor continues to instil confidence while the investigation is ongoing.
The Freedom Front Plus will keep seeing to it that all allegations of possible maladministration, inappropriate benefit or the misuse of public resources are properly investigated.
