The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) and Aberdeen residents demand that the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality urgently take steps to address a burnt-down house that has been left in a neglected and dangerous condition.
The house in Van Riebeeck Street has been in ruins for years and poses a direct threat to public safety and the community’s health.
The structure is in a critical state of decay, with loose roof plates and cracked walls that could collapse at any moment. The structure not only endangers passersby and children playing in the area, but has also become a breeding ground for crime, illegal dumping and other unsanitary activities.
Numerous complaints have been lodged with the Municipality, but no visible steps have been taken, raising questions about the Municipality’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Aberdeen’s residents.
The Municipality should immediately take steps to resolve the issue in accordance with the relevant legislation.
In terms of the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act, the Municipality is obliged to take action when a property poses a danger to people’s lives or other property.
If the owner of the property is untraceable, as is the case with the property in Aberdeen, the Municipality has to follow specific steps as outlined in the Municipal Systems Act and municipal by-laws for problematic properties.
In the meantime, the Freedom Front Plus demands that the Municipality immediately inspect and secure the property, clean up the rubbish and take the necessary legal steps to demolish the property.
Aberdeen residents deserve to life and work in a clean and safe environment.
The Freedom Front Plus will keep monitoring the situation and take further steps to compel the Municipality to fulfil its mandate.
