Five feathered fowls, who joined the family at Crocworld Conservation Centre in September last year, have already become firm favourites at the Scottburgh-based park. The offspring of the aptly-named peacock and peahen, Azure and Majesty, are happily roaming the paths of Crocworld, making friends and captivating visitors with their beauty.

Crocworld’s Animal Curator, Busani Mthiyane, explained that eight eggs were laid; however, only five survived predators – all of which hatched in September. “They’re all doing really well at Crocworld, and are another wonderful addition to the centre’s incredible family of birds,” he said, noting there were some 200 bird species found in the indigenous coastal forest – alongside the resident creatures! Visitors to the centre can also check out the nesting egrets above the crocodile enclosures, home to the largest and oldest known Nile crocodile in captivity – 124-year-old Henry! Not to be overlooked is Henry’s best mate and fellow Nile legend, Colgate, whose well into his 90s!

With the epic Easter holiday programme running, as well as the Family Fun Easter Trail at Crocworld on 18 April 2025 (Good Friday) from 4pm to 6pm, this is the best time to visit Crocworld and its newest residents. Visitors to Crocworld Conservation Centre can also enjoy great food and drinks with an exquisite ocean view at Fish Eagle Café, ziplining at Jikaleza Outdoor Adventures, and the WildED Crocworld Activity Book and Ranger Guide available at The Curio Shop for purchase.

“If a young man tells his date how handsome, smart and successful he is – that’s advertising. If the young man tells his date she’s intelligent, looks lovely, and is a great conversationalist, he’s saying the right things to the right person and that’s marketing. If someone else tells the young woman how handsome, smart and successful her date is – that’s PR.” – S. H. Simmons
