Pilanesberg Airport Development Plan

20 February 2026 by Guest

Statement by Haseena Ismail MP – DA Spokesperson on Tourism:

The Democratic Alliance welcomes the launch of the new Pilanesberg Airport development plan by Minister Dean Macpherson, this is a practical step towards boosting tourism in the North West province.

The announcement signals renewed momentum for a critical regional gateway that has faced significant setbacks in recent years. A modernised and properly prepared airport has the potential to restore investor confidence, improve connectivity, and position the North West as a more competitive tourism destination.

Tourism remains one of the province’s most important economic drivers, supporting local businesses, creating jobs, and sustaining communities. Improved access to flagship destinations such as Sun City and the broader Pilanesberg area will help stimulate visitor numbers, expand hospitality opportunities, and encourage private-sector investment.

The Memorandum of Understanding will see the redevelopment of Pilanesberg Airport that can create construction jobs in the short term while unlocking longer-term economic benefits through tourism growth and improved regional connectivity.

The DA will continue to support efforts that will create more jobs and economic opportunities.
