Cape Town’s R200 Million Solar Plant on Track

In the News Today: Construction is set to begin on the City of Cape Town’s first city-run solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Atlantis, 40km north of the inner city.

The R200 million project, which is expected to be completed within a year, could potentially feed between 7MW to 10MW into the city’s electricity grid, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said in a statement.

After completion, the solar plant will be connected to a nearby main substation to feed power directly to the grid.

Hill-Lewis says the first power is expected to be delivered near the end of 2025.
