R100 000 Reward Offered

The City of Cape Town is working closely with the South African Police Service to restore calm following multiple shooting incidents yesterday, but also to find those responsible.

On Thursday, 3 July 2025, 10 persons were shot in three separate incidents in Beacon Valley – three of whom died. Two more persons died in shooting incidents in Tafelsig and Town Centre.

‘The recent shootings in Mitchells Plain are a direct threat to the safety and wellbeing of our communities. This level of violence will not be tolerated – not in Mitchells Plain, and not anywhere in our city. Every resident has the right to feel safe in their own neighbourhood, and we will act decisively to protect that right.

‘The City is offering a R100 000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible. We call on residents to come forward with any information that may assist law enforcement agencies,’ said Acting Mayor, Alderman Eddie Andrews.

The Safety and Security Directorate is working closely with SAPS – additional staff members were deployed to the area yesterday, including officers attached to the Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP), the Metro Police Tactical Response Unit and the Traffic Services’ Roadblock Unit.

‘It is imperative that we find those responsible for these shootings. Apart from manpower, the City also has various other resources that are available to SAPS to help expedite the investigations. We will maintain our increased deployment levels in the area to help restore calm, and to find the perpetrators. I understand that the public might be hesitant to speak up, but please, if you know anything about yesterday’s events, we ask that you consider coming forward and sharing that information,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

Anyone with information about the identify of the shooters, is asked to please contact SAPS or the City.

The City’s tip for reward line number is 0800 1100 77 – callers can choose to remain anonymous.

Tips received by the dedicated tip-off line are relayed to the relevant City agency. Once they have made an arrest/confiscation, etc. they will submit the application for consideration by the Rewards for Information Committee. We do have to caution the public that it could take several weeks or months after the arrest or confiscation is made for the reward to be paid out, once all relevant administrative processes have been completed.

The system is NOT open to people under the age of 18.
