Gqeberha residents are invited to join a lively “Inner-City Clean Up” starting at 08:30 (until 10:00) from the Absa Branch on Govan Mbeki Avenue (Port Elizabeth Central, Gqeberha) on Saturday, April 6, 2024. This event sets the stage for the highly anticipated Absa RUN YOUR CITY GQEBERHA 10K on Sunday (7 April).

“Not only does the inner-city clean-up contribute to a cleaner, more vibrant city but it also fosters a sense of community pride and unity,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Series Founder. “It’s a wonderful way for residents to come together and prepare the ‘Friendly City’ for an action filled Absa RUN YOUR CITY GQEBERHA 10K.”

“The Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series will provide all volunteers with refuse bags and gloves,” continues Meyer. “Once filled, these bags will be collected and disposed of. Your participation not only helps us care for the environment but also contributes to making Gqeberha a more sustainable city. As a token of appreciation, Absa will treat volunteers to delicious breakfast packs and refreshing beverages after the clean-up.”

Single Use Plastic (SUP) Management Campaign: The Gqeberha inner-city ‘Clean Up’ aligns seamlessly with the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series’ SUP Management Campaign, which targets an 85% reduction in single-use plastics across all five events.

“Our vision is to create a mass participation road running series that is environmentally conscious, showcasing the beauty of our host cities while honoring their communities, talents, and the sport itself,” emphasizes Meyer. “Building on our partnership with #RunClean, we will once again have designated ‘litter zones’ along the route to maintain a litter-free environment. Additionally, we urge participants to support #ICarryMyOwn by bringing their own water bottles to reduce waste. These water bottles can be filled at the refreshment stations on route. We’re thrilled to be back in the stunning city of Gqeberha and can’t wait to #RunYourCity alongside thousands of runners.”

Show Me the Money: Before you put the PR movie list away, jot down one more title: Jerry Maguire. Technically, Tom Cruise’s titular character is a sports agent, not a PR pro – hence its exclusion from our list above – but many of his skills align with the industry. From managing client relationships to pitching and marketing, Jerry Maguire is filled with PR wisdom.
