RMB is proud to be one of the supporting partners of the upcoming World Masters Rowing Regatta at Roodeplaat Dam. The event is being held from 21 to 24 September. Close to 900 athletes from 40 countries will participate, supported by 50 national and international officials and thousands of fans from around the world.
This is the first time a World Rowing event will be held in Africa.
With a focus on where they could add the most value, RMB’s support has helped improve the infrastructure at Roodeplaat. This decision will not only ensure a world-class experience for the rowers and spectators but also leave a lasting legacy for South African rowing.
To add value to the event and the participants, RMB has also come to the party with a team of professional photographers, providing keepsake moments for all of the local and international athletes.
RMB’s support for the rowing community extends far beyond the RMB National Squad and the Rowing World Masters Regatta. The bank sponsors four regattas throughout the year, namely the RMB Universities’ Boat Race, RMB Buffalo Regatta, RMB VLC National Sprints Regatta and SA Schools Rowing Championships. The sponsorship also extends to supporting development rowing clubs in various ways. Last year RMB contributed funds to ensure Grassy Park could compete in the Nationals. More recently, the bank stepped up to sponsor Cape Peninsula Rowing, making the facilities safer for the community to row, with new jetties and improved infrastructure.
“Early on we recognised that in order to support the sport at a national level we needed to make a difference to the broader community creating opportunities for potential talent to shine,” said RMB’s Head of Brand and Sponsorships, Lucy Lightfoot. “RMB has been contributing to the broader rowing ecosystem and facilitating the upliftment of the sport itself since 2015. We are proud to be the title sponsor of the RMB National Squad, which recently qualified a boat for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
