StatsSA: WC and Cape Town have the best jobs and service delivery record

27 May 2024 by Guest

Dear Editor

[Listen to an Audio Note from Solly Malatsi MP]

Five days before South Africa’s watershed general elections on Wednesday, Statistics South Africa (StatsSA), has confirmed – beyond any doubt, that the Western Cape Province and the City of Cape Town have the best service delivery record when compared to other Provinces and metros in the country.

According to StatsSA’s General Household Survey (GHS 2023), you are likely to get a salaried job, have access to clean piped water and better sanitation if you are a resident of the Western Cape and the City of Cape Town. The findings in the GHS 2023 confirm what we have known all along, the DA is the best party of government and the quality of life is better under a DA led government.

At a time when the rest of the country is struggling with access to clean water and high rates of unemployment under the failing ANC, the DA run governments in the Western Cape continue to outshine other provinces across all service delivery metrics:

  • At 74,6%, the WC has the highest number of households whose income is derived from a salary (which means that more people are employed in the WC than other provinces)
  • At 68,5%, the Cape Town metro has the highest number of households whose income is derived from a salary (which means that more people are employed in the WC than other metros).
  • At 99,3%, the Western Cape has the highest percentage (%) distribution of households with access to piped or tap water in their dwellings, off-site or on-site by province at (selected years 2002–2023).
  • At 99,8% Cape Town metro has the highest percentage (%) distribution of households with access to piped or tap water in their dwellings, off-site or on-site by metropolitan area.
  • At 95,6%, the WC has the highest number of households that have access to improved sanitation.
  • At 95,4%, the WC has the highest number of households with flush toilets.

This is a remarkable record of delivery for Western Cape residents and it is clear why residents in the Province will be going out in numbers on Wednesday to vote the DA back into office with an increased majority.

Western Cape residents have refused to be fooled by fly by night small parties that are trying hard to bring the ANC through the back door. The ANC will be a disaster for the Western Cape as they will bring the whole package that they have used to collapse other provinces – corruption, lack of drinking water, sewage flowing in the streets, cadre deployment and general service delivery collapse.

Years of good governance under a DA led government have brought tangible benefits for residents of the Western Cape and residents will protect that record by voting for the DA again. Residents are aware that the Western Cape is on course to bring the unemployment rate below 20%, which is far lower than any Province in the country.

The DA remains committed to honoring its commitment to run clean governments and to deliver quality services for the residents of the Western Cape. It’s a commitment we are ready to extend to the rest of the country and help rescue South Africa. We urge all South Africans to go out in their numbers to vote DA and rescue South Africa!

Regards
