From classic cocktails to bold new expressions, ANGOSTURA® remains the cornerstone of creativity behind the bar. Its versatility was on full display at the recent ANGOSTURA® Global Cocktail Challenge (AGCC) South African Finals, where ten of the nation’s top bartenders went head-to-head in a celebration of skill, passion, and flavour innovation.
Rising to the top was Alexander Fahrenheim, who impressed the jury with his original creation—the Royal Fool Swizzle—a cocktail that captures the spirit of modern mixology while paying homage to the timeless elegance of a swizzle. With rich, fruity layers and a hint of spice, it’s a refreshing yet complex serve that reflects ANGOSTURA®’s enduring influence on cocktail craftsmanship.
Royal Fool Swizzle Recipe
60ml ANGOSTURA® 7-Year-Old Rum (or a local rum)
45ml Rhubarb & Vanilla Cordial
45ml Moroccan Mint, Star Anise, Ginger Dry Vermouth
2 dashes ANGOSTURA® orange bitters
2 dashes ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters
METHOD
Alexander combined the smooth, full-bodied character of ANGOSTURA® 7-Year-Old Rum with a vibrant rhubarb and vanilla cordial, lifted by aromatic dry vermouth infused with Moroccan mint, ginger, and star anise. Finished with a double dash of both ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters and orange bitters, the cocktail is perfectly chilled and swizzled—bright, bold, and brilliantly balanced.
Immerse yourself in the Royal Fool Swizzle and discover why ANGOSTURA® remains a beacon of inspiration for mixologists worldwide, setting the standard for versatile and iconic cocktail creations.

The Father of PR: We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Edward Bernays, known as the “father of Public Relations.” Some of his (in)famous work included promoting cigarettes to women by branding them “Torches of Freedom” and… toppling the Guatemalan government? It’s true! The United Fruit Company hired Bernays to run a PR campaign against Guatemalan president Jacobo Arbenz Guzman, ultimately resulting in the CIA-orchestrated overthrow of the Guatemalan government in 1954. People often have an unhindered perspective on what PR should be, and here is what AI & Laura Ries think of the same. “It’s PR that needs to be creative. It’s PR that needs to be new and different. It’s PR that needs to be original. The best way to establish a brand is to create a new category, and creating a new category requires creative thinking of the highest order.”

People as disparate as Malcolm X and John D. Rockefeller both spoke to the power and importance of public image. Since PR is something that people who are so fundamentally different can agree on, you know there must be something fundamentally important about it. If you \’re still not convinced that Public Relations is absolutely critical to the success of your business, you\’ll change your mind after visiting MyPR.co.za.
