On 8 September 2026, a suspect was caught red-handed while removing and damaging Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) election posters along South Main Reef Road in Springs.
Residents immediately reported the incident and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) was called in. The person was arrested and charged. A criminal case has been lodged and the first court appearance is scheduled for 10 September.
The Freedom Front Plus strongly condemns this act of vandalism. Wilfully damaging political campaign material is more than a difference of opinion, it is an offence that undermines property and the democratic process.
Law enforcement’s swift response and community members’ intervention are welcomed. Their stepping in shows that residents are not prepared to stand idly by while offences are committed.
Every political party has the right to run its campaign freely and peacefully, and residents have the right to access information in order to make an informed choice at the polls. The Freedom Front Plus will keep reporting all incidents of vandalism and intimidation, and pursue appropriate legal action.
There is certainly room for political differences, but intimidation, vandalism and criminal conduct must not be tolerated.
The Freedom Front Plus thanks the Springs residents who reported the incident. This is exactly the kind of community involvement that is needed to restore law and order.
