The Demographic Challenge

Young Kenyans aged between 15 and 34 make up roughly 35% of the national population. Within this group lies the country’s highest unemployment rate, particularly among those living in rapidly expanding urban settlements in cities such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Eldoret.

The challenge is especially acute in informal neighbourhoods where information about work is fragmented. Without structured pathways, this demographic challenge continues to constrain social mobility across the region.

Enter Tich App: A Digital Bridge for the Gig Economy

Tich App, a mobile-first digital marketplace, aims to connect these 15–34-year-olds with short-term, gig, and informal job opportunities. By digitising informal labour listings and incorporating features such as ratings, references, and basic contract guidance, the platform seeks to formalize previously opaque labour channels.

“Tich App is designed to increase employment visibility and improve job-matching efficiency for urban youth,” the company stated. “By aggregating gig opportunities in one place, the platform aims to make the informal labour market more transparent and accessible”.

The timing is critical. High mobile phone penetration and social-media use among urban youth make a smartphone-first solution uniquely viable today. This digital behavior, paired with the growth of gig-based hiring, creates immediate demand for a marketplace that reduces exploitation in informal hiring.

Strategic Partnership and Roadmap

Tich App has officially joined EquityPilot, a program by FasterCapital – a global venture builder established in 2014 that ranks as the #1 Venture Builder by StartUps helped and money raised.

• First 60 Days: Tich App will refine its Android application and deploy a targeted pilot across Nairobi and Mombasa.
• FasterCapital’s Role: The incubator will provide execution coaching, go-to-market guidance, and introductions to key mentors.
• Growth Metrics: Over the next 90 days, the team will begin measuring job placements, user retention, and employer satisfaction to inform scaling.

The founding team brings a powerhouse of local expertise, combining 20 years of Kenyan marketing experience with digital product delivery and tech-hub operations. The team is drawn from Sunami Marketing Services and local innovation hubs, ensuring the platform remains locally relevant.
