Time for a Tech Dividend Feast

21 May 2024 by Guest

Easy Equities says that this week is a tech week as Nvidia, one of the tech giants leading the AI revolution through its GPUs, is expected to announce its earnings. The company has consistently maintained the same dividend payment (annual dividend yield nearly 0.02% as of writing), and its shares have risen by over 190% in the past 12 months. A beat in market expectations for earnings and revenue could possibly rally the share price.

Amid the tech race to become a leader in AI (artificial intelligence) offerings, the Microsoft Build 2024 conference, themed “How will AI shape your future?”, is expected to start during the week. The PC software giant (Microsoft) is expected to showcase new AI capabilities. Microsoft has historically increased its dividend after every four quarters (annual dividend yield 0.71%), and its shares are up 32% in the past 12 months.

In our weekly dividend update, several companies are announcing growing dividend payouts.

  • Microchip Technology Inc. (maker of microcontrollers, mixed-signal, analog, and Flash-IP solutions) has been increasing its quarterly dividend.
  • Applied Materials, Inc., an American company that provides equipment, services, and software for semiconductor manufacturing; Marriott International Inc., a leading multinational hospitality company; and Whitbread PLC, a British multinational hospitality firm and owner of the UK’s biggest hotel brand, have increased their upcoming dividends by 20%, 21%, and 26%, respectively.
  • SBA Communications Corporation (who have a presence in South Africa), a provider of wireless infrastructure services including cell tower leasing, and Yum Brands Inc., which owns and franchises fast-food restaurant chains like KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell, increase their dividends annually. Respectively, the 2024 cash payouts are 15% and 10% higher than last year’s payments.
  • Imperial Brands PLC, a tobacco and cigarettes giant, announced an increase in its dividend, which will be split into two payments. The last day to buy shares that qualify for the first payment is within the week.

In other corporate actions, Accelerate Property Fund, a South African listed real estate investment, will proceed with a rights offer. It will use the funds raised to strengthen its financial position and reposition Fourways Mall.

This week’s update also includes exchange-traded funds from the South African market preparing to pay dividends.

Africa is on the rise -Looking for growth opportunities? – Search no further. The African continent is on the cusp of transformative growth, with blossoming entrepreneurship and plenty of opportunities for smart and simple business solutions. Africa is a 1.2bn-person market, a number expected to double over the next 30 years. The continent has been gradually transformed in the past 20 years, and if you haven’t noticed you are not alone. Generally, business leaders tends to overestimate the challenges of doing business in Africa and underestimate the size and potential on the African continent. Thereby not stating that the African markets are easy to do business in, but emphasising that they are worth the effort, and companies not engaged in African markets risk losing out on one of the 21st century’s great growth opportunities.
