Two officials suspended after using ChatGPT to draft South Africa’s national AI policy | SA News

The AI policy has since been withdrawn by the department, and Malatsi has appointed a panel of experts to help the department draft a new AI document.

Director-General Nonkqubela Jordan-Dyani said that they have identified the root cause.

“And also engaging officials responsible, it has been said that ChatGPT was used in as far as the editing of the document itself.”

Malatsi said that their investigation identified two officials.

“As a result of those internal engagements, then the secondary step that took action was to place the officials on precautionary suspension to allow the team and the department to do a thorough investigation.”
