Two Powerful Opportunities to Showcase Your Film or Series

9 June 2025 by Guest

Cape Town, South Africa — As FAME Week Africa returns to Cape Town from 1–6 September 2025, the spotlight is firmly on the power of African storytelling—and the platforms that help those stories find a global audience. With deadlines fast approaching, filmmakers, producers, and content creators are encouraged to submit their work for two key opportunities: the Inclusive Lens Awards and the MIP Africa Project Pitch Platform due on 13 June 2025.

Inclusive Lens Awards: Celebrating Diverse and Underrepresented Narratives

After a successful debut in 2024, the Inclusive Lens Awards return to FAME Week Africa to recognise excellence in storytelling that reflects underrepresented perspectives and promotes inclusivity. The awards will be held on 2 September as part of the MIP Africa programme and will spotlight film and television works that champion diversity, with special categories for LGBTQ+ representation, disability awareness, and children’s content.

“The Inclusive Lens Awards are designed to reward exceptional efforts in representing diversity and shifting perspectives,” says Martin Hiller, FAME Week Africa’s Portfolio Director. “We’re looking for stories that challenge stereotypes, model equality, and reflect the complexity of African lives.”

Eligible works must have been produced between 1 January 2024 and 31 May 2025, and have screened publicly via broadcast, streaming, cinema or festival.

Award categories include:

  • Best LGBTQ+ Representation
  • Best Disability Representation
  • Best Diversity and Inclusion Representation for Young Audiences

Submissions can be made at: https://www.fameweekafrica.com/mip-africa/en-gb/inclusive-lens-awards.html#finalist

MIP Africa Project Pitch Platform: Where Stories Meet Opportunity

If you have a compelling idea for a film or series—whether scripted, factual, animated or format-based—the MIP Africa Pitch Platform offers a unique opportunity to get your project in front of commissioning editors, investors and buyers from across Africa and the world. Projects selected for the Pitch Platform will be matched in closed pitch sessions during MIP Africa.

Held from 1–3 September 2025 during FAME Week Africa, MIP Africa is the continent’s premier content market, facilitating real deals and industry growth.
“If you’re looking for co-production partners, development funding or distribution opportunities, MIP Africa is where it all begins,” says Hiller. “We’ve already seen fully commissioned shows come directly from previous pitching sessions.”

Projects at any stage of development are welcome. Selected entrants will gain access to industry networks, pitching sessions, and invaluable feedback from decision-makers in the global screen sector.

Pitch submissions are open at: https://www.fameweekafrica.com/mip-africa/en-gb/Pitches.html

Key Pitch Dates:

  • Submissions Close: 13 June 2025
  • Pitch Dossier Released: 3 August 2025
  • Live Pitching Sessions: 1–3 September 2025

From inclusive narratives to innovative formats, FAME Week Africa 2025 is committed to championing African content creators and connecting them to the global industry. Whether you’re spotlighting diverse experiences or preparing your next breakthrough idea, these two opportunities are your chance to step into the spotlight.

Van is getting married, but he and his fiancee have never done the deed – in fact he\’s never been with any woman before. He\’s getting more and more nervous as the big day approaches, so he confides in his friend. His friend says \’No worries man. I\’ll come by the honeymoon suite before you guys get there, and I\’ll hide behind the curtain, and I\’ll whisper instructions to you.\’

    \’You\’d do that for me?\’

    \’Sure thing man!\’

So the wedding day arrives, it was a lovely service (so I was told, I wasn\’t there myself) and Van\’s friend sneaks into the honeymoon suite as promised and hides behind the curtain.

Van and his new wife arrive in the room, get settled on the bed, and things are getting steamy.

But Van is still super nervous and his tummy is bubbling, so he murmers to his wife, \’Listen babe, I\’m just gonna go to the bathroom quick. I think it\’s that wors roll from earlier.\’

    \’Sure thing babe.\’

So Van goes into the bathroom, and he\’s taking quite a long time. And his wife is starting to feel the nerves herself. And it\’s getting worse. She can\’t hold it in. But she doesn\’t want to go after he\’s gone and totally ruin the mood. So she looks around and finally finds a shoebox. Quickly, she does her business in the shoebox, and she shoves it under the bed just as Van comes back from the loo.

Van gets back on the bed and they go at it again. But after a minute or so Van smells something not so lekker.

    \’What\’s that smell?\’

\’Nothing babe,\’ he wife tries to assure him.

\’No man there\’s definitely something not so lekker in this room!\’VSo Van starts looking around the room, in the corners, in the cupboard, and finally he looks under the bed, and sees the shoebox.

He pull it out, and opens it up, and in horror he shouts \’Sies! Daar\’s kak in hierdie doos!\’

And from behind the curtain his friend yells, \’NEE MAN, DRAAI HAAR OM!\”
