The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the Electoral Court’s decision to dismiss the ANC’s appeal to reopen the candidate registration process, and the party hopes that voters will follow suit and punish the ANC’s incompetence at the polls during the upcoming elections.
This judgment sends a clear message that the ANC can no longer use such tactics to bully or intimidate state institutions in order to make up for its own shortcomings.
With its appeal, the ANC sought to compel the Electoral Commission (IEC) to accept its registration of ward councillor candidates in six municipalities after the deadline. The Court dismissed the appeal.
The ANC’s failure to submit its own candidate lists on time is more than an administrative slip-up. It demonstrates exactly who and what the ANC has become: an organisation characterised by utter administrative and political decay.
This incident is indicative of the much larger crisis in which South Africa finds itself: this kind of incompetence and mismanagement has caused municipalities nationwide to collapse, resulting in crumbling infrastructure and a lack of basic service delivery.
It is this same incompetence that has forced the country’s economy to its knees, that has led to junk status and record-high unemployment figures.
It is this incompetence that has left local communities without access to clean water, reliable power supply and safe roads.
If a party cannot even get its own internal affairs in order, it can certainly not be expected to govern a country, a province or a municipality effectively.
The Freedom Front Plus urges voters to seize the opportunity with both hands to once and for all oust the ANC in the upcoming local government elections.
It is time to demonstrate that the people of South Africa are no longer prepared to pay the price for decline, corruption and maladministration.
