Where Is the Presidential Water Action Plan?

2 April 2026 by Guest

Statement by Stephen Moore MP – DA Spokesperson on Water and Sanitation:

After the President announced a Water Crisis Committee in February’s SONA, the DA has been eagerly awaiting a clear action plan from this committee.

In our questions in Parliament to the President and Minister of Water & Sanitation, we uncovered that by mid-March, the Committee had yet to meet. Despite this, the President promised that a Water Crisis Plan would be adopted by the end of this month.

The DA has submitted a PAIA application to the Presidency to ascertain what exactly has been discussed in the President’s Water Committee meetings, including terms of reference and resolutions adopted. Importantly, we seek the Water Crisis Plan, which is meant to guide the country’s strategy in dealing with the municipal water crisis.

In addition to our PAIA application, the DA also has further Parliamentary Questions and the Portfolio Committee overseeing the Presidency at our disposal. There is nowhere to hide from empty promises.

The DA calls the Presidency to play open cards with South Africans – release the Water Crisis Plan for public scrutiny. With the rights and dignity of millions at stake, the DA will not settle for more empty promises.
