World Rugby Looking Into Alleged Discriminatory Language

World Rugby issued a statement earlier regarding alleged discriminatory language in the semi-final 2 between England and South Africa on Saturday, 21 October.

World Rugby said that they take all allegations of discriminatory behaviour extremely seriously.

“We can confirm that we are formally reviewing the allegation made by England’s Tom Curry in relation to the use of discriminatory language during the England versus South Africa Rugby World Cup 2023 semi-final on Saturday and World Rugby will not be making further comment until the conclusion of the process,” they said.

It is alleged that Curry was called a White Cunt by Bongi Mbonambi. The transcript of England Flanker, Curry’s interaction with the referee, Ben O’Keeffe went as follows; “Sir, sir if their hooker calls me a white cunt, what do I do?” and the reply was; “Nothing, please!”

Interestingly the words “if their hooker calls me” was used and not “their hooker called me”!

As we all know the Springboks communicate in Afrikaans on the Rugby field so Curry may had misheard someone saying; “Die Wit Kant (the white side)” or any variation of that. As it is the term “doos” is probably the one that any South African player would use to convey the same sentiment. As is popularly said; “Don’t be one side of a six sided Afrikaans box!” The Afrikaans word Kant is the term word that you are looking for as the answer to that statement.
