A public relations expert’s role in the music industry for musicians is to communicate with media outlets, create public relation campaigns, write press releases and work with the  musicians team. As a public relations practitioner Baphiwe offers ten reasons why artists need a PR expert:

    1. Their relationship with the media: exposure for musicians in the media space is important especially for interviews on radio stations, TV and podcast. PR experts are able to facilitate interviews through their relationship with media outlets.
    2. Press Releases – With artists having to constantly promote their work whether it is a single, album or a tour. Issuing a press release is essential to inform and media outlets to inform supporters and for possible collaborations.
    3. Creating a brand – developing an artist’s brand by managing their image and personality which aligns with their music and brand is crucial to an artist’s success. Which will appeal to not only their audience but brands and the public as a whole.
    4. Work with editors – As an artist you would definitely want your work reviewed, played on media channels or booked for performances. Public relations experts work with music critics, bloggers, journalists, radio DJs, booking agency to get their musicians on these platforms on their behalf.
    5. PR Campaigns – collaborations between musicians and sponsors has proven to be a successful formula which benefits both parties. Sponsors know the influence of artist have on consumers. Artist are able to promote the brand alongside their music
    6. Collaboration with artists and lawyers – PR experts can help clients get that feature from the desired artist by contacting them on their behalf which could lead to a relationship among the collaborators. Contacting the musicians for any legal issues either for clearing a song or when making statements to the press.
    7. Press kit – Consisting of an artist’s bio, images and links to their music is essential to every musician. For promotional purposes to be distributed to media outlets and music promoters
    8. Music promotion – Beside sharing music on social media. Helping promoting music to get them on playlist on the popular music streaming platforms to grow their listeners and gain new ones is part of the reason why musicians need PR experts.
    9. Social media management – Though this may not be necessary artists do need PR experts to manage their social media for communicating artist related content such as their latest music released, interviews and performances
    10. Create Interest – Creating awareness around an artist for any newsworthy information or any events they want to share with the public. This is facilitated to inform or to gather support towards an initiative.
