African Women Leading the Screen

14 August 2025 by Guest

Gathering some of the most powerful people in film, television, fashion and music in Africa, FAME Week Africa spotlights the high prevalence of women shaping the industry; from concept to investment, production to distribution. Women in Africa are in the director’s chair and the executive boardroom, building an industry that is, in parallel, building a strong African cultural narrative.

Throughout the three-day conference programme, 87 of the 179 confirmed speakers are women from across the sector — with more speakers to be added in the lead-up to the opening.

They’ll take the podium and lead conversations on a line-up that includes:

Nomsa Philiso, CEO General Entertainment, MultiChoice Group, is at the forefront of the Group’s innovative content drive, leading as it remains the largest producer of original content on the African continent. With a career spanning over 30 years, she has held pivotal roles at the SABC and now at MultiChoice.

Hellen Fissihaie, CEO of F3 Global LLC, whose Nia Film and Creative Fund is investing in East African storytellers and infrastructure.

Caroline Mbindyo–Koroso, Head of Kenya & Nigeria for TransPerfect Media, mastering the art of linguistic and cultural localisation for African content to resonate globally while staying authentic.

Adetutu Laditan, Creative Director at Woof Studios Africa, who is redefining how African creators build, brand and monetize digital storytelling across global platforms.

Kudi Maradzika, the award-winning Zimbabwean-born showrunner and executive producer behind a Netflix original already renewed for season two.

Lala Tuku, Head of Content at SABC, whose leadership launched SABC+ and created award-winning series; she’s a co-founder of the Africa Rising International Film Festival and a newly minted Emmy board member.

Ladun Awobokun, Chief Content Officer at Filmhouse, who drives West Africa’s biggest box-office successes, navigating not just storytelling, but distribution, strategy, and institutional transparency.

Wendy Parkies, C-Suite leader in OTT and FAST content distribution, enabling African voices to be heard across continents through innovative media ecosystems.

Marie Lora-Mungai, publisher of Hustle & Flow and a leading advisor within UNESCO, IFC and the World Economic Forum, whose insight powers creative financing across 27 African countries.

Crystal Birch, Founder of The Hat Factory, is South Africa’s milliner extraordinaire. Redefining hat-making with edgy, contemporary designs rooted in timeless craftsmanship.

Tumi Mogape, Head of Publishing Acori Music Group, is an accomplished music industry professional with over 15 years of experience in music publishing and rights management supports songwriters in managing their copyrights and assists creatives and music users with comprehensive rights services.

Kim Jayde, Founder of Creative of KJ Productions and Kickin’ it with Kim Jayde, is a Zimbabwean-born, South African-based media powerhouse whose journey from self-funded fashion blogger to award-winning TV presenter and businesswoman epitomises grit, authenticity and reinvention.

Flavia Motsisi, a Forbes Africa–recognised storytelling powerhouse who is also named on the 2025 Mail & Guardians Top 200 Young South Africans will be part of the event. Motsisi has transformed scripted series’ for MultiChoice and Showmax and co-founded SWIFT to champion equity and inclusion in the industry.

A highlight of FAME Week Africa is the Women in Entertainment Breakfast, hosted at the iconic Mount Nelson Hotel and proudly sponsored by Ray Content Hub, part of the Rapid Innovation Group. This curated gathering of industry leaders is both a strategic exchange and a celebration of women’s contributions to the creative industries.

Representing Ray Content Hub is broadcasting pioneer and tech entrepreneur Thabile Ngwato, whose trailblazing career includes being part of the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders Class of 2024 cohort, co-founding South Africa’s first Black-woman-owned commercial TV channel (Newzroom Afrika) and owning Bluestream Technologies, Africa’s only women-led uplink business.

Says Ngwato, Founder and CEO of Ray Content Hub, “We are excited to announce our partnership with FAME Week Africa and look forward to the Women in Entertainment breakfast. This initiative aligns perfectly with our mission to empower women in the industry and we believe in the impact it will have.”

Martin Hiller, Portfolio Director at FAME Week Africa, reflects: “Women are truly shaking up the film and television sector and leading generously. We’re proud to be giving them a stage to tell their stories and contribute to making the deals that define film and television.”

FAME Week Africa is the continent’s leading gathering for the film, television, music and fashion industry, taking place from 1 – 6 September 2025. For more information and to register, visit www.fameweekafrica.com
