The GOOD Party heeds the call by Mandla Mandela urging the South African government to “call for the immediate release” of international activists detained by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF). Mandela issued this plea from aboard the Alma, part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, before the vessel was intercepted while attempting to break Israel’s inhumane siege on Gaza and deliver much-needed aid.
This latest development follows the detention of climate activist Greta Thunberg and others aboard the Madleen in June, and the growing list of peaceful international solidarity efforts that have been met with military force. When asked about the renewed flotilla effort, Thunberg noted that the best way to protect the aid workers was “to keep global eyes on the flotilla.” We echo that call.
The Israeli government’s aggressive posture toward humanitarian missions must be condemned in the strongest terms. These flotillas do not carry arms or threats, they carry food, medicine, and the message that the world has not forgotten Gaza.
The use of starvation as a weapon, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and the targeting of aid convoys are violations of international law and an affront to our shared humanity.
The GOOD Party supports efforts by civil society to spotlight the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and call on all nations to act with conscience and urgency.
This is not about religion or identity. It is about justice, dignity, and the basic principles of international law.
