In the latest development regarding the alleged incident of “black face” at Duineveld High School in Upington, the teacher, Mr Jaco Liebenberg, has been placed on leave pending an investigation by the Northern Cape Department of Education.

This was conveyed in a letter that the principal shared with the school community earlier today.

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) insists on a fair investigation so that the inevitable disruption can be kept to a minimum.

Mr. Liebenberg is a popular and compassionate teacher.

During an oversight visit in October last year, the chairperson of the parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Basic Education, Ms Joy Maimela, criticised Upington’s Afrikaans high schools for allegedly having too few black learners. She formed her opinion without considering the demographic composition of the area.

It is no secret that the ANC is targeting high schools in Upington.

The Freedom Front Plus insists that the investigation should not turn into a witch-hunt aimed at proving racism in a bid to justify the disruption.
