Autotrader’s Black November Is Giving Car Buyers 30 Days to Find an Epic Deal

Rather than limiting its Black Friday deals to a single frantic weekend, AutoTrader is extending the event across the entire month of November. The Black November promotion runs from 1 to 30 November, with 439 deals currently available across cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, and leisure rides, representing more than R8.8 million in total savings.

For buyers looking to buy their next vehicle, search data from last November offers valuable insight. According to AutoTrader’s Mid-Year Industry Report, SUVs, hatchbacks, double cabs, and sedans topped consumer interest. Data from November 2025 shows a wide spectrum of demand, spanning everything from a R207,000 Suzuki Swift to a R1.3 million Porsche Cayenne.

Average listing data also highlights how vehicle age and mileage vary within similar price brackets. Understanding these patterns gives shoppers useful context before this year’s deals go live on 1 November.

“Four days can be a tight window if you’re fitting viewings and test drives around work,” comments George Mienie, CEO of AutoTrader. “A month gives buyers more time to see the cars they’re considering and compare the offers. We want people to feel comfortable with the car they choose as well as the price they pay.”

Polos and Porsches made the November 2025 shortlist

Volkswagen dominated hatchback searches, taking the top three spots. The Polo led with 4.96 million searches, followed by the Golf at 3.88 million and the Polo Vivo at 2.90 million. The Polo averaged R267,549, whereas the Vivo aligned more closely with the Suzuki Swift at R212,564 and R207,150, respectively. The Swift averaged a slightly newer model year (2023 versus 2022) and roughly 10,600 km less on the odometer than the Vivo, offering budget-conscious Polo shoppers compelling alternatives.

In the SUV market, the Toyota Fortuner led interest with 2.04 million searches, followed by the Cayenne, BMW X3, BMW X5, and Corolla Cross. With the Porsche averaging R1.32 million, its strong search interest may have reflected aspiration as much as intent, with shoppers curious to see what was available at the top end of the market. Comparing the two Toyotas yields interesting trade-offs: the Fortuner averaged R466,491 for a 2018 model with 120,258 km, while the Corolla Cross averaged R382,607 for a 2023 model with just 30,856 km. Buyers targeting a Fortuner deal might find a compact SUV delivers better value.

Double-cab buyers leaned heavily toward the Ford Ranger, which logged 5.75 million searches ahead of the Toyota Hilux’s 3.97 million. The Isuzu D-Max ranked third, but presents a strong case around the R500,000 mark. Averaging R502,828, it costs roughly R5,500 more than the Ranger while offering a 2023 registration year instead of 2021 and approximately 21,300 fewer kilometres. Factor in engine specs and trim, and it becomes a strong contender against the market leaders.

The BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class commanded sedan searches, generating 3.60 million and 2.97 million views respectively. Both averaged around R377,000 for 2016 models. As a newer, lower-cost option, the Polo sedan averaged R222,342 for a 2020 model with 74,779 km. Deciding between a luxury emblem and a younger vehicle involves balancing several model years and a sizable price gap prior to any sales discounts.

More time to look beyond the discount

While historical search data helps refine options, exact pricing and discounts will only be revealed once the Black November event launches. Because these averages reflect different trims, ages, and conditions, search volume indicates shopper interest rather than confirmed transactions.

A sensible approach for buyers is to shortlist target models before browsing, then evaluate individual promotional listings against standard market prices. A higher list price might be justified by lower mileage or extra features, whereas a lower price tag could simply point to an older car.

The longer run should make Black November easier to shop than the usual four-day rush. With specials appearing throughout the month, buyers have time to keep checking what is available, compare cars properly and move when the right deal comes up. With a full month of specials to choose from, buyers have a better shot at finding the right car at the right price.

Capitalism, the ogre of those protesting Wall Street, has suffered a Public Relations crisis in the wake of the global economic collapse. But any remedy to the systemic corruption that led to the collapse should not displace recognition that capitalism creates wealth. Capitalism, and no other economic system, has raised millions from poverty around the world. – Kathleen Parker
