Candidates for Buffalo City Ward 1 and 10 By-Elections

19 May 2026 by Guest

Statement by Leander Kruger MPL – DA Buffalo City Constituency Leader:

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape is proud to officially announce our two candidates for the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality Ward 1 and Ward 10 by-elections on 17 June 2026.

Lucille Benfield has been selected as the DA’s candidate for the Ward 1 by-election. Lucille successfully runs an NPO in East London and has made it her mission to fight for the rights of women, children, and the youth.

Olga O’Neill, our candidate for the Ward 10 by-election, is well-known for assisting community members in resolving various service delivery challenges. She has been a dedicated DA activist for many years and in the 2021 Local Government Elections she was the DA’s candidate for Ward 10.

Lucille and Olga are exceptional candidates who have demonstrated their commitment and dedication to their communities. The DA is proud to have them as part of our team.

The role of ward councillor has become both increasingly difficult and vital to communities due to the dysfunctional state of Buffalo City Municipality.

We are extremely confident that Lucille and Olga will rise to this challenge and serve the residents of these two wards with integrity. Once elected, we have full confidence in their ability to work with the Caucus to implement the DA’s mandate to fight crime and corruption, deliver services and create jobs.

Lucille and Olga will work for you.
