Mossel Bay: 79 Year-Old Deceased

Michelle Roos, NSRI Mossel Bay duty coxswain, said: At 16h55, Monday, 18 May, NSRI Mossel Bay duty crew were activated following eyewitness reports of a man who appeared to may have fallen from rocks into the sea at The Point, Mossel Bay.

NSRI rescue swimmers responded directly to the scene while NSRI crew responded to our NSRI Mossel Bay station 15 rescue base to prepare to launch rescue craft.

Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue Services, the SA Police Services, ER24 ambulance services and WC Government Health EMS rescue squad responded.

While responding to the scene eyewitnesses reported a man, a local Good Samaritan, had entered the water and he had been able to rescue the casualty to the shoreline where bystander CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts were in progress.

Our NSRI rescue vehicle responded.

NSRI crew arriving on the scene continued with CPR and were joined by paramedics.

After all efforts to resuscitate the 79 year old local man were exhausted sadly the man was declared deceased.

The body of the deceased man has been taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

Police have opened an Inquest docket.

Condolences are conveyed to family of the deceased man.

NSRI has commended the local bystander Good Samaritan that rescued the man and who had initiated CPR.
