Weather warning has City of Cape Town departments on high alert: The City of Cape Town said its services are on high alert after the South African Weather Service (Saws) issued an advisory Level 4 warning for disruptive rainfall.
The weather warning was issued to surrounding municipalities as well and is expected to make landfall from midnight on Sunday, October 27, until early hours of Monday, October 28.

Various fuel stations such as BP, Shell and Engen around Cape Town metro experience shortages of Unleaded Petrol 95 (ULP 95) due to an unplanned refinery outage.

Eskom withdraws from Cape Town informal settlement after second attack: Families in Endlovini informal settlement in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, will have to wait to have their electricity faults repaired after Eskom withdrew its services from the area.
Eskom made the announcement on Monday after the security vehicle accompanying the power utility’s workers into the area was hijacked. The workers were there to fix a number of electricity issues.
Eskom said the recent hijacking had left them with no choice but to halt all services in Endlovini for the safety of their staff and contractors. Eskom said it was the second incident in two weeks where their teams were targeted.

Vandalism impacts Western Cape power supply network: Eskom in the Western Cape said that its power supply network continues to be vandalised and overloaded by illegal connections.
The parastatal said that the overloading has resulted in power failures, affecting over 16,000 residents in Bothasig and Kraaifontein.
Technicians from the utility have had to switch off power supply to the entire Wallacedene area, to begin repairs.
This comes as Eskom is vying for yet another tariff increase, the African National Congress (ANC) said that there are plans to make electricity more affordable for South Africans.
This despite the power utility’s application to energy regulator, Nersa, for a 36% tariff hike to take effect in 2025.

Increase in sewage at Cape Town beaches pose serious heath risks, warns epidemiologist: An epidemiologist has warned that an increase in sewage at beaches along Cape Town’s coastline could pose serious health risks.
Senior lecturer at Stellenbosch University’s department of global health, Doctor Jo Barnes said sewage intrusion into the ocean around Cape Town has alarmingly increased.
Barnes said she joined a team of health and water quality experts to test Cape Town’s rivers and beaches recently.
“Most of the rivers entering the sea from various points in the peninsula are heavily polluted, particularly with sewage,” she said.
