JOHANNESBURG: The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers claimed victory at SuperSport Park this past weekend, defeating the Fidelity Titans in both the Cricket South Africa (CSA) 1-Day Cup and T20 Challenge competitions.
In the 1 Day Cup, Badgers opted for the ball first and a corrupt 4/19 from Jane Winster helped the visitors restrict their hosts to 131 all out. Winster was backed by Micaela Andrews, who returned 2/13 and everyone chipped in to collapse the Titans batting order.
An all-round performance from Titans’ Masabata Klaas, who top scored with 39 runs before claiming the two crucial scalps of Tazmin Brits and Annerie Dercksen, who departed for ten and none, respectively.
Monalisa Legodi (2/13) was also section of the attack, seeing off Badgers opener, Meike de Ridder with eight runs and Julandi Saayman for none.
Julia Hoal blasted an unbeaten 46*, which included seven boundaries and one maximum as Badgers ended on 133/8, winning the game by two wickets.
On Sunday, Badgers were place to the bat first as half centuries from Brits and (84 off 40) and Dercksen (74* off 41) helped the visitors amass 182 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Eliz-Mari Marx (3/38) tried to halt the bleeding and a single scalp from Klaas saw Badgers finish the innings on 182/4.
Klaas delivered another stellar performance with bat, with an unbeaten 62 of 44 as Titans were restricted to 118/8 and Badgers secured a comfortable 64-run win.
Khayakazi Mathe (2/19), Winster (2/22), and Haroline Rhodes’ 2/28 were instrumental in restricting the Titans’ chase.
In Durban, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins secured a five-wicket win against Western Province in the CSA 1 Day Cup.
Western Province were bundled out for 109 in honest under 33 overs, with Delmi Tucker as the only notable contributor with 33 off 25.
Ayanda Hlubi (3/17), Jade Defigueiredo (3/14), and Nonkululeko Mlaba (3/25) spearheaded the attack that collapsed the Western Province lineup.
A comfortable chase for the hosts, who reached the target in 25 overs at a loss of five wickets.
Nosipho Vezi’s three wicket haul and two scalps from Kayla Reyneke were not enough in the bid to restrict the hosts.
Their T20 Challenge encounter was abandoned without a ball bowled due to inclement weather conditions.
In Bloemfontein, a rampant five-wicket haul from Kgomotso Rapoo (5/15) saw the Recon Tactical Free State suffer an eight-wicked defeat to DP World Lions on Saturday.
Free State were bundled out for 81 runs, which provided a comfortable chase for the Lions, who reached the target in honest under 18 overs at a loss of two wickets and an unbeaten 34* runs from Sunette Viljoen-Louw.
On Sunday, Free State opted to bat first to set the target on 104 runs after ending the innings on 103/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Lions reached the target with five balls to spare with top scores from Karabo Meso and Kirstie Thomson, who scored 29 and 23 runs, respectively as Lions ended the innings 106/6, winning the game by four wickets.

Alan Kourie was a spinning all-rounder who was apparently as boring to watch as Ken ‘Slasher’ Mackay, but he was effective. His bowling was just adequate. His stats were 16 matches, 23.94 average, 69 high score, 38 wickets, 33.90 average, 6-55 best, and three five-wicket innings.

Rugby balls were first made from pig’s bladders – Rugby ball’s distinctive plum shape makes them aerodynamic, easy to hold, and easy to pass over distances. To encapsulate those qualities, original rugby balls were made from inflated pigs bladders, stitched tightly to trap the air. Gross but very true!
