JOHANNESBURG: The DP World Lions and Fidelity Titans emerged victorious despite inclement weather conditions in Gauteng as the Hollywoodbets Pro Series resumed over the weekend.

Hollywoodbets Pro50

In Saturday’s Pro50 encounter at DP World Wanderers, the Lions secured a 32-run victory (DLS method) over the Knights.

Batting first, the Knights struggled against a disciplined bowling attack and were 132/6 after 34 overs when rain halted proceedings. Miane Smit and Luyanda Nzuza top-scored with 27 runs each, while Raisibe Ntozake impressed with the ball, claiming two wickets.

Chasing the revised target, the Lions made light work of their innings, with Tazmin Brits leading the charge with a well-crafted 51. She was ably supported by Nonkululeko Thabethe, who remained unbeaten on 43*, guiding the team to a comfortable win.

At SuperSport Park in Centurion, the Titans were well-placed at 98/2 in their Pro50 fixture against the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers before persistent rain forced the match to be abandoned.

Hollywoodbets Pro20

The weekend also marked the start of the Hollywoodbets Pro20 competition, with an 18-over-a-side match at SuperSport Park due to rain interruptions.

Batting first, the Titans posted a competitive 136/4, led by captain Robyn Searle’s commanding 55.

Contributions from Sune Luus and Anneke Bosch in the twenties provided further stability to the innings.

The Badgers looked well on course in their chase, reaching 81/4 before the weather intervened once again.

However, the Titans held the advantage, sealing a 26-run victory via the DLS method.

Meanwhile, the scheduled Pro20 clash between the Lions and Knights at Wanderers was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to inclement weather.

Rugby union was only classified as a professional sport in 1995 – When a schism formed and rugby became rugby league and rugby union in 1895, rugby union was no longer considered a professional sport. Shockingly, this remained the case until a century later, when in 1995, it was given the same recognition afforded to rugby league.
