VEREENIGING: Day two saw the KZN Inland Rural team finish as the only undefeated team left in the CSA Inland Rural Week after a dramatic one wicket victory over the Lions Rural team on Friday.
Inland’s Tatum Griffiths and Matthew Dukes scored the final three runs needed with one wicket in hand to keep their unbeaten run going.
Batting first the Lions were bowled out for 123 with just Brian Kubayi (22) and Charl Penning (24) scoring above 20 for the Lions.
Matthew Dukes followed up his impressive five-for on day one with three for 15 with the ball, but it was Shaldon Mungaroo who shone with the ball. Mungaroo took 4 for 34 to follow up his three wicket haul on the opening day on Thursday.
With the bat Inland found themselves in trouble at 54 for four before Warren Humphries (35) and 15 not out from Griffiths got them over the line.
Keyan Grace also contributed with 35 while Arshad Desai made 27 at the top of the order.
Free State produced a statement win over Limpopo when they chased down 177 with two wickets down and inside 30 overs.
Limpopo were bowled out for 177 with Stephan Swanepoel (41) and Shawn Cross (45) providing the fire-power to get them to that mark.
Armand Kemp took 3 for 28 for Free State and was the pick of their bowlers.
In reply Kemp rounded off a brilliant all-round performance finishing on 64 not out as he carried his bat through the innings.
His opening partner Kellan Oehley made 74 off 53 balls as the openers put on 123 for the first wicket.
Tshepo Masheshemane ended on a run-a-ball 20 to give the Free Staters a convincing victory.
The KZN Coastal Rural side battled again with the bat and were bowled out for just 107 by the North-West Rural side.
Tumelo Mathe was the pick of the North-West bowlers picking up four for 33 in nine overs while the wickets were shared amongst the other bowlers.
Neill Jordan provided the only real resistance with the bat making 23 batting at number nine.
A match-winning 37 from Estiaan Schonfeld and 28 from Thomas Botha helped North-West squeeze past Coastal by three wickets.
It was another low-scoring affair in the match between Northern Cape Rural and Mpumalanga Rural.
The Northern Cape side batted first and were restricted to 121 all out in 44 overs with Etienne Botha’s 41 the only score over 20 for Northern Cape.
It was another good day with the ball for Bevan Carlse who took 3 for 11 while Bernard Voster also bagged three wickets, taking 3 for 23 in his ten overs.
The Northern Cape bowlers then ripped through the Mpumalanga batting line up to bowl them out for just 53.
The wickets were shared with Rudolph Oberholzer (3/22) and Franco Swart taking astonishing figures of 3 for four in just four overs.
The result gives Northern Cape their first victory of the week following their abandoned match yesterday against Free State.
